What the federal budget function "Health" covers: Medicaid grants to states, the Children's Health Insurance Program, premium tax credits for marketplace coverage, health research (NIH), and public health and food and drug safety (CDC, FDA).
In FY2026 through August 2026, the share was 13.3% ($925.7 billion so far). Shares are of the sum of all budget functions with positive outlays, the same base as our federal budget pie chart and the tax calculator.
